Anthropic renames Claude Max 20x to Ultra and drops its 5-hour limit for verified accounts

Anthropic renamed its two Claude Max plans on October 30. Max 5x is now just Max, and Max 20x is now Ultra. Prices did not move: $100 and $200 a month. The real change is on Ultra, where verified accounts no longer have a 5-hour usage limit, starting today with most existing subscribers. THE PLANS NOW

- Max (was Max 5x), $100 a month: 5x Pro usage every 5 hours and every week, and $100 a month in API credits for the Claude Platform, per claude.com/pricing. - Ultra (was Max 20x), $200 a month: no 5-hour limit for verified accounts, 10x Pro usage every week, and $200 a month in API credits, which the pricing page marks as up from $100 on Max. - Weekly limits are unchanged, Anthropic says. Existing subscribers do not need to do anything.

WHAT IS SOURCED

The rename, the unchanged prices and the 5-hour change come from Anthropic's own post on X from @claudeai on October 30. The plan details come from claude.com/pricing, read the same day. Anthropic says newer accounts keep a temporary 5-hour limit until they are verified, which it says helps prevent fraud and abuse, and that those subscribers get an email when the limit is removed.

WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW

How long verification takes for a newer account, and how many existing subscribers fall outside "most". Anthropic has not said whether the change is tied to a coming model; the leak accounts we follow read it as room for Fable 5.5, but that is their guess, not anything Anthropic has said.
