Anthropic's amended S-1, filed with the SEC on November 2, says its internal estimates and expectations for future models indicate it "may imminently" meet its Responsible Scaling Policy's definition of "dramatically accelerated progress attributable to AI". We read the amendment (S-1/A) directly on SEC EDGAR.

WHAT THE FILING SAYS

- The trigger is future models, not current ones: the filing says "our internal estimates and our expectations regarding future models, rather than our current models" point to the threshold. - No current model has been designated as over it. Anthropic says it continues to assess the underlying data and will release further reports under its Responsible Scaling Policy. - On AI building AI, Anthropic writes that it does "not anticipate being able to safely use Claude to fully autonomously design and build successive generations of frontier models without meaningful human supervision or understanding". - It says it is considering updates to its Responsible Scaling Policy "to keep humans in control of frontier model development at Anthropic". - It also warns that its evidence on the pace of AI-driven acceleration comes largely from lagging indicators, so a speed-up may only be noticed after it has happened.

WHY IT MATTERS

This is a risk-factor disclosure in an IPO filing, written for investors, not a model announcement. It is the clearest public statement yet from a frontier lab that its own threshold for AI-accelerated research could be crossed by its next models.

WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW

- Which model, and when. The filing names neither. - What the updated Responsible Scaling Policy will say. - Whether the IPO timetable or price range changes with this amendment.

Posts on X first flagged the new wording; the quotes above are from the filing itself.
