gpt-6.2-astra shows up in Codex usage screenshots, unconfirmed by OpenAI

Three X accounts say a model id, gpt-6.2-astra, has started appearing in OpenAI's Codex while the model picker still reads GPT-6 Astra. OpenAI has not announced a GPT-6.2 and has said nothing about this.

WHAT THE ACCOUNTS POSTED

- @TokenGremlin (10:09 UTC, November 1) posted a cropped Codex usage breakdown listing gpt-6-astra at 80% and gpt-6.2-astra at 19.8%, and says several users see the same split, which would point to a gradual test rollout. - @Mr_Salio (10:30 UTC) posted a response snippet with "model": "gpt-6.2-astra" in a response.completed event. - @LuminaBench (11:03 UTC) says the id is showing up in some people's Codex usage analytics.

WHAT IS SOURCED

Only the screenshots above, from accounts we cannot check against OpenAI. We looked ourselves: no gpt-6.2 id is in OpenRouter's catalog or on models.dev as of 11:28 UTC. OpenAI's last Astra-line news was GPT-6 Astra Cyber, named on October 23 with no date.

WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW

Whether gpt-6.2-astra is a new model or a renamed serving build, when or whether it ships, and what it costs. Earlier unconfirmed posts (October 29) tied a GPT-6.2 to the codename Betelgeuse; nothing links the two yet.

GPT-6.2 is armed on our radar. The alert fires when it answers on a public API, not when a screenshot names it.
