Fable 6 leaked for mid-to-late August — a Kalshi contract already names that exact model, and pricing is the only checkable claim

A leak today puts Fable 6 in mid-to-late August, calls it Anthropic's most capable model so far, says pricing stays level with Fable 5, and frames it as the answer to GPT-6. Three of those four claims are unfalsifiable until the model exists. One is not — and there is a priced market on the date, which is a better instrument than a leak.

The date, against a contract that names this exact model. Kalshi runs a series on Anthropic releases, and one live contract asks whether Anthropic will release its next Mythos-class model before August 14. Its rules are unusually useful here: any model in Anthropic's Mythos tier, including anything branded "Mythos" or "Fable", excluding Fable 5, which shipped June 9. That is a contract written about precisely what the leak claims. Its sibling window — before August 1 — has already settled NO, so the wait is real. Later windows run to September 1, October 1 and November 1.

Line that up with "mid-to-late August" and the leak straddles the boundary: it is a NO for the August 14 contract and a YES for September 1. A claim that cannot land on one side of an existing, money-backed line is not telling you much about timing.

The pricing claim is the checkable one, so here is the baseline to hold the release to. Fable 5 lists at $10 per million input and $50 per million output with a 1M context window, half that on batch. "Same pricing as Fable 5" means those numbers, and it is a real claim rather than a vibe — Anthropic moves flagship pricing, and Opus 5 sits at half that today, $5/$25. If Fable 6 arrives above $10/$50, this leak was wrong in the one place it could be checked.

"Most capable model so far" and "response to GPT-6" are framing, not claims. Every flagship is its vendor's most capable model on the day it ships; that sentence has never once been false. And GPT-6 is a name OpenAI has not committed to — the model everyone means is Astra, which OpenAI said today it is deliberately slowing over cyber-capability concerns. A leak describing a race against a competitor's launch, published the same morning that competitor announced a delay, is describing a race whose other runner just sat down.

Nothing is in the catalogs: no fable-6 across 400 OpenRouter ids or 6,218 on models.dev. Our alert for it has been armed since well before this leak, alongside a separate one for a 6.1 point release, so nothing here changed what we watch.

Where the first real signal will probably appear. OpenRouter carries an alias, claude-fable-latest, priced identically to Fable 5 today. Aliases like that repoint at the new flagship on release day, usually before anyone announces anything — we watched exactly that happen with a Grok voice alias last week, and it is the earliest observable moment in a launch.
