Grok Voice 3.0 is out, and grok-voice-latest already switched your voice agents to it

xAI released Grok Voice 3.0 on October 14. It is grok-voice-3.0 in the Voice Agent API, a speech-to-speech model at $0.08 a minute ($4.80 an hour), the same price as Grok Voice 2.0. xAI's release notes also say grok-voice-latest now points to it, so any voice agent built on that alias changed models without a code change. Grok Voice 2.0 is deprecated.
THE ALIAS MOVED AGAIN
This is the second time. In August, grok-voice-latest moved from 1.0 to Think Fast 2.0. If your agent's prompts, timing or call flows were tuned on 2.0, pin the model id rather than the alias, and retest before you trust it on live calls.
THE NUMBERS
Artificial Analysis lists Grok Voice 3.0 at 86.9 on its Speech-to-Speech Index (we read it on October 15), and xAI calls that the top score. xAI's own table, built from Artificial Analysis data, puts 2.0 at 81.3, GPT-Live-1 (Astra, medium) at 83.2 and Gemini 3.8 Live (extended thinking, high) at 82.6. On tau-Voice, a test of support calls with accents, background noise and interruptions, xAI reports 71.6%, up from 56.5% for 2.0, with GPT-Live-1 at 74.5%. xAI says Grok Voice 3.0 does that at about 40% lower latency, with first audio in under a second.
WHERE IT ALREADY RUNS
xAI says it handles millions of conversations a day in Tesla cars, powers Grok Bot's voice mode, and answers about 20,000 Starlink support calls a day, roughly 70% of them with no human involved. Those are xAI's figures.
WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW
Whether xAI will name a removal date for grok-voice-2.0. Its release notes call 2.0 deprecated without saying when it stops answering. Our radar did not catch this release, because no catalog we sweep listed a grok-voice-3 id. The next Grok Voice now has its own hunt.
