Claude adds Personal Finance: read-only bank and card connections through Plaid, in beta for US Pro, Max and Ultra

Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on November 5. Users connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask Claude about their money. Access is read-only, so Claude cannot move, manage or invest money. The beta is rolling out this week to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.

WHAT CLAUDE CAN SEE

Anthropic says Claude's access is limited to each connected bank's name, the account name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transactions (as reported by TechCrunch). The bank login happens through Plaid, which refreshes the data when needed, Plaid says.

WHAT IT DOES

• Adds up spending across connected accounts and sorts it by category, such as rent, food and shopping.
• Flags duplicate charges, unexpected fees and bills that keep rising.
• Answers broader questions, such as whether you spend more than you earn, and explains terms like APR with the interest you actually paid.

PRIVACY AND ADS

Anthropic says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. It also says Personal Finance has no ads or sponsored recommendations and does not sell credit cards, loans or savings accounts.

CONTEXT

OpenAI added Plaid-powered personal finance to ChatGPT in May. Plaid says Anthropic joins more than 800 AI companies building with it.
